Interview: Mackenzie Horan of Design Darling

Design Darling is an inspirational blog for me. It is one of those blogs that I absolutely can't wait everyday to see what is posted by the blog creator, Mackenzie Horan, because the style is so flawless. Every post features something that I want or something to inspire my style, whether it be personal or in the home.

Mackenzie also recently started the Design Darling boutique, a fabulous collection of preppy home goods that I can never get enough of! I want everything. From monogrammed salt and pepper shakers to tortoishell bracelets, every preppylove reader will be drooling over the goods in her shop.

Mackenzie so kindly let me ask her a few questions about her life, blog and inspirations...

1. How did you get started with your blog and your boutique? Tell us how you came to be the "Design Darling."

I started my blog during my junior year at Bucknell. I was desperate for a creative outlet outside of class and blogging sort of fell into my lap! I swear I had zero readers for at least the first few months but gradually it became what it is today- a place to share my favorite finds with darling readers who love the same things I do! I created the boutique earlier this year as an online shopping destination for accessories and decor in keeping with my blog's aesthetic. I'm so blessed to do what I love!

2. What have been some of your most rewarding moments with your blog?

There are so many! Being featured on Camila Pavone's blog Effortless Style. Landing a summer internship with Jonathan Adler. Launching the boutique of course! But it's the everyday stuff- friendly comments, emails, and tweets- that keep me going!

3. What inspires you when you are looking for new pieces for your boutique?

I only purchase things I'd want to have in my own home or wardrobe, whether it's an enamel bangle or a monogrammed ice bucket. My heart still races when I find the perfect little something to add to the site.

I actually won this tray recently! Pictures to come soon!

4. How would you describe your personal style?

Playfully preppy. I love the classics- Jack Rogers, pearl studs, riding boots- but I don't adhere to any kind of rule book. I pick and choose which trends to try out each season. This summer, for instance, I'm all about peplum tops!

5. Tell us about your top five fashion must-haves.

Ballet flats. A navy blazer- I promise, you'll never take it off. Oxford shirts in every color and weight. Skinny jeans. And always a piece or two of costume jewelry to make it interesting!

Mackenzie, thank you so much for the interview! I'm thrilled to get insight from one of my most inspirational bloggers. Remember to check out Design Darling, the boutique and follow Design Darling on facebook!
